Welcome to Creative Smudges

Jodie Howell was a factory worker for 15 years. When the economy took a downturn she pursued a career in Dental Administration. All the while family and friends kept asking her why she wasn’t making use of her considerable artistic talents. The fire was ignited and the result is Creative Smudges.

Jodie’s appreciation for art began in her formative years and was nurtured through her environment. Family, friends, teachers, school, and life – all were instrumental in supporting her talent. When she became a mother, her inspiration was drawn from her special needs son.

Shortly after Jodie’s son was born he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Based on her experiences being a mother to a child with limited motor and vocal abilities, Jodie needed to find a way to engage her son with life. She found that the vibrant colourful characters he watched on the television screen were the most effective.

The brush strokes that would eventually become Creative Smudges were born on the walls of her son’s bedroom. Jodie noticed instantly the joy her son received from the murals she had painted on his walls. Her goal now is to take her life-long appreciation for art and use it to brighten other lives.
